Clever Engineering Launches Innovative New Product to Help HVACR Engineers
May 31, 2011
Introducing the simple, but safe, strap called the JugLugger that allows easy carrying of refrigerant cylinders while still freeing up both hands for climbing ladders, carrying tools or holding onto that all important first cup of coffee of the day.
It’s one of the most basic challenges faced in the HVACR industry. The 12+kg cylinder of refrigerant is in the service van and the mechanical equipment is on the roof of a building and there’s often only a ladder as a means to get from one to the other.
Obviously it takes at least one hand to carry the cylinder and two hands gripping the ladder to safely go up it, so contractors and engineers quickly realise that they are always going to be one hand short.
The JugLugger refrigerant carrying strap was developed in conjunction with contractors who provided feedback to various prototypes as well as other carrying devices. The product was designed to solve this industry challenge of coming up with a device that reduces the bane of most engineers’ lives and so getting the job done as safely and quickly as possible.
The product has a cross-linked foam shoulder pad covered with denier nylon that has 13mm steel connection clips and 50mm steel pivot jaws for adjusting the length. Both clips are attached to the top of a cylinder’s integral handle, and then the strap is slung over the shoulder and the engineer is ready to head up the ladder using both hands for the climbing.
Back on level ground, there is value in the product because it allows the engineer to use both hands to carry more tools from a vehicle to the HVACR equipment in one trip. It’s much safer and it frees up the engineers’ hands, saving a trip back to the van can easily save 5-10 minutes per service call. Given this added productivity, the JugLugger carrying device pays for itself in no time.
The product has been on the market in the US for about a year and interest continues to grow. Now it’s being launched throughout the UK and Europe and should be available soon from HVAC wholesalers. Meanwhile, the JugLugger can be bought direct from UK Distributor, Clever Engineering.

Introducing the latest Ventilation Ducting Product from DuctSox Fabric Duct Manufacturer
April 15, 2011
SkeleCore is the latest product innovation from DuctSox and finally answers the question “is there a solution for fabric duct droop?”
Quite simply, SkeleCore is a Cylindrical Tensioning Device (CTD) for fabric ductwork systems. It maximizes the duct’s open shape and keeps the fabric taut and fully round even in the deflated mode. This allows for smoother and quieter start ups and improves the aesthetics while at the same time minimizing fabric wrinkling.
Immediately available for specifying on all new DuctSox fabric duct projects, SkeleCore can also be easily retrofitted to existing suspension systems and amazingly is also compatible for use with fabric ducting produced by other manufacturers.
This unique and simple system is constructed of a lightweight metallic ring and tubing structure and has minimal effect on friction loss. SkeleCore is available for the whole range of fabric duct diameters from 200mm [8"] all the way up to 900mm [36"] (in 50mm – 2″ – increments).

Perfect Factory Cooling Created with Measured Results for Specialist Fixings and Fasteners Manufacturer
March 24, 2011
When Richco International needed to cool down their UK manufacturing plant in Northfleet it was DuctSox fabric ducting that clinched the deal. Their challenge was that they needed to get the temperature of their plant room down to acceptable levels while at the same time eliminating any draughts that might upset the critical measuring equipment there.
A system was designed which delivered cool fresh air from 3 Met Mann AD-14-VS/100 floor-mounted top discharge evaporative coolers mounted externally at the rear of the factory and connected with a range of DuctSox Sedona-Xm fabric ducts, a premium grade fabric that provides ‘comfort-flow’ a superior airflow, which solved their specific air movement issue on the factory floor below.
DuctSox’s H-Track, an anodized aluminium track suspension system, was mounted via the purlins keeping the fabric duct system stable above the production area this hanging system is great for applications where the system changes direction.

Oskar Products – A Breath of Fresh Air for Manufacturers

Conforming to health and safety regulations is a fundamental issue within industry. The two key regulations that apply to dust control in the workplace are COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) and ATEX, which is based on two European directives and forces employers to classify into zones any areas where hazardous explosive atmospheres may occur.
It’s a well-known fact that within the modern manufacturing plant, many nasty toxic fumes are produced on a daily basis. Toxic fumes are a health hazard for everyone working there though simple changes in the workplace can make it a much safer place. What’s more employers don’t need sick or injured employees or even legal action delaying production.
There’s a big choice of relatively simple solutions to deal with harmful and hazardous fume and dust issues from free hanging arms and filter packages to full exhaust systems, downdraft tables, blowers, modular ventilation systems and portable units too. And because fume extract can require any mixture of air cleaning, air removal and air treatment, there are a variety of options available.
COSHH states that the main method of removing dust should occur at source. Proper in-house cleaning can reduce, and even eliminate, the requirement for ATEX zoning. Some people consider large-scale ventilation to be the best option for air cleaning, but there are many arguments to choose local on-tool extraction directly at the source of the problem.
Most systems are designed to manage everything from corrosive fumes to abrasive dusts and powders. In addition, the correct fan will ensure the correct flow and static pressure for your specific application.
Specific or general filtration of the air in your plant and manufacturing facility is more than a human resources consideration for your employees. Appropriate fume extraction is governed by various agencies and the plant manager or manufacturing director has to ensure all health, safety and welfare issues are met and even exceeded through the installation of safe, cost-effective and well designed extract systems.
Whether your air treatment requirement is for a welding or soldering operation, a machining plant, painting company, laboratory (where even higher air standards are required), there is a fume extraction system prepared to meet your individual needs.
The extraction of dust and fumes requires a system with technological know-how, a system designed for the rigors of factory working. A comprehensive range of extraction models can be seen here; contact Clever Engineering for prices.
